Sunshine State Young Readers Award

Each year the state of Florida selects fifteen books for K-2nd students and fifteen books for 3rd-5th grade.  It is sponsored by the Florida Department of Education and Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME).  The main purpose is to motivate students to read a variety of books and encourage the love of reading. 

   Lake Whitney Supports SSYRA Jr. and SSYRA Books!

We encourage Kindergarten-2nd grade students to read three SSYRA Jr. books and 3rd-5th grade students to read three SSYRA books.  ALL students who read at least three books will be able to participate in a statewide vote on his/her favorite SSYRA Jr. or SSYRA book! Recognitions and/or celebrations will take place when 2nd-5^th grade students read 3, 5, 10 and all 15 SSYRA Jr. or SSYRA books.
